This part of the leaf is responsible for abdominal cramps and diarrhea that often accompany the use of aloe vera. It is also responsible for the bitter taste in aloe vera. However, the aloe vera gel is safe for use. The addition of this gel to shakes, smoothies, salads, or soups makes it easier to ingest.
